Conditions this past week have been varied; early in the week saw bluebird and excellent skiing in the alpine, mid week saw new snow and good skiing in the trees on non-solar aspects. The group at the Lodge has reported over 30cm this week and great skiing.  As has been reported for many areas on Avalanche Canada, the new snow is not bonding that well to the early February crust and small natural releases have been observed. The last week of January saw the wild temperature extremes that affected BC & AB. On the 29th & 30th we had a daytime high of +7c and overnight low of +2c. The Jan. – 20 – 27 group had temperatures  from -4° C to 2°C for the week. There was 5 cm of snow accumulation daily and little to no wind. The snowpack ranges from 135 cm at treeline to 150 cm in the Alpine. Great skiing reported! Apparently a Pineapple Express is on the way. ... [read more]
